Final Fantasy (official studio MCD)

Review AOR Dreamzones April 2004 - Score: 65/100

By: Nicky Baldrian

If you enjoy bands like Lana Lane, Alyson Avenue en Nexx, then you will enjoy a new female fronted act called After The Silence who are from Holland. They are led by singer Ingrid van den Hof - van den Berg, who has a strong sensual vocie in the vein of Lana Lane and Anette Blyckett from Alyson Avenue. The band have recorded this mini album themselves. First song "Final Fantasy" is vey catchy and quite melodic with chunky guitars and atmospheric keyboards. "Weary Angels Heart" is also a good song, a little rockier with hot guitars and a charging chorus á la Lana Lane. "C'est La Vie" strugles as the vocals sit back in the mix and come over a little tingly, the guitars wail and the song gets very addictive and is laced in keyboards. "Resurrection" is the last song which is a charming melodic piano based with haunting vocals from Ingrid that sounds quite like Kate Bush here and there.

My only complaint is that for the band to make any further headway they need to get the vocals higher to the mix, there's nothing wrong with the production, but at times it is difficult to understand what Ingrid is singing as the guitars seem to dominate her vocals, which is a shame as she has a good voice.
